One Time Password Security
In the user login traditional, a password is usually only changed when it is needed. The password becomes static as users only changed their password when it expires or if they have forgotten it. Most of the password are cached on computer hard drives and stored on servers. They can be easily optain by cracking. It also becomes a concern where the password can be retreive by the hacker with a stolen laptop. Hence, static password will not be a good option for any secure or private usage.
Like what it is stated like the name, One-time password changes each time the user logs in. The passwords themselves are generated in one of two ways: either as time-synchronized or counter-synchronized. Both approaches typically require the user to carry a small hardware device (often on a key chain) that is synchronized with a server, and both typically use some algorithm to generate the password. OTP provides a more secure login option for logins or any single transactions.
To date, OTP is widely used by banking industries for secure transactions usage and e-banking purposes. OTP can be loaded on any format which include token, SMS, mobile or software token.
